Donegal Racing, which includes 22 Iowans with an ownership stake, had a strong showing at the Kentucky Derby. Keen Ice, a 44-1 longshot, came in seventh after a slow start. Favorite American Pharaoh was the winner, followed by Firing Line and Dortmund.
Jerry Crawford, a Des Moines businessman, along with his partners are very excited about the way Keen Ice charged down the stretch late.
"Very proud of KEEN ICE. 7th despite a tough trip and slow pace. A bright future for this boy," he tweeted.
Keen Ice is Donegal's third Kentucky Derby entry in six years. There's another race in the immediate future.
"Donegal Racing's fast-closing KEEN ICE will bypass the Preakness and target the Belmont Stakes - you heard it here first!" read his twitter account.
