DULLAHAN CLOSING AT THE RIGHT TIME - UTSD
Received an email from horse racing fan Don Mackinnon last Saturday morning before the Arkansas Derby and Blue Grass Stakes were scheduled to go as the last big prep races for the May 5 Kentucky Derby.
Mackinnon wondered where Dullahan was in our U-T Derby Watch poll. Wasn’t there, so I answered him back by saying if Dullahan, who had only won one race in his young career, won the Blue Grass Stakes and beat the big white horse, Hansen, then well, we’d have to take a serious look at the colt. Dullahan is named for an Irish fairy tale figure who usually was seen headless, riding a black horse with his or her head tucked under one arm.
