You Have to Kiss a lot of Toads...
As my good friend and Donegal partner Fred Kammeier likes to say about antique sales, "You have to kiss a lot of toads to find a princess!" So goes the first two days of the Keeneland sale.
We bid on three very nice horses today and each of them went past our limit. Donegal VP Conor Crawford and I brainstormed bidding last night. Conor was all over the difference between actual values and likely sales price. As a result, we ended up stopping at our pre-set limits and finishing the day empty handed. It is easy to get frustrated but one thing you won't see us do is spend wildly just for the sake of buying.
We will stand down tomorrow and bid on no horses, but be back firing on Wednesday and Thursday.
We enjoyed having a number of Donegal stalwarts at the sale today including Eliot Honaker, Ray and Judi Smith, Sharon and Ron Carlson, Dick McCaulley and Donegal fan, Joe Jongewaard.
The honorable naming committee is most eager to begin work so hopefully we will have something for you to fire at before the week is over ;).
