Two for Two!
Dear Partners and Friends,
Lightening struck twice in the same place today as Donegal came away with Hip 568 by Harlan's Holiday (sire of Danny Boy) out of a Gone West mare. Diesis is the grand broodmare sire. This colt is a half to the million dollar winner, Wilcox Inn, who was one of the most durable runners in the land. Conor Crawford predicted this colt could go for huge money and we felt lucky to get him at $385,000. We were on our final bid with both horses when they fell our way.
This colt was born on May 4th and what a birthday party we have planned for him two years from now ;).
Physically, both horses purchased today are compact, durable looking athletes. They both rated very high on stamina and class. The Harlan's Holiday scored out at -.5 on our algorithm, where 4.0 is par for "perfect." Scores can get reduced (lower numbers are better just like on the sheets) for things like a strong performance by the mare on the racetrack and for prior production. This mare earned $200,000 as a runner, had a 6 on the sheets and produced Wilcox Inn.
The two colts purchased today and the one we will be bidding on tomorrow were our top three selections for the first four days of the sale.
For naming purposes think Harlan's Holiday, Gone West and De Aar.
The sale will get far more exciting this weekend when $150,000 will buy a good horse.
Jerry
