Sales Update for Derby Dreams VII
"And.....they're off!" The 2014 sales that is.
Donegal shops primarily at four sales each year for yearlings that fit our profiles. Fasig-Tipon July, Saratoga Select, Saratoga New York Bred and Keeneland September.
The first of those sales, Fasig Tipton July, is happening today. We identified twenty-four horses that met our profile. Twenty of them failed on visual inspection. Two failed the vet exam. We knew one would be overpriced. Leaving just one horse. Our team was so energetically divided on him we should have made a sitcom! At the end of the day, we did not buy him. From a pedigree standpoint he wasn't exactly a stallion prospect ;). On genetics he just crawled over the line. On physical, he would have needed to come in the right direction growth wise. So, when in doubt don't buy just to be buying.
On to the two sales at Saratoga where enormous discipline is required to come away with a horse at a fair price.
We just learned today that Keeneland September will be selling thirty-six Paddy O'Prado's. Twenty two of them colts. Our hope is to have two of them in Derby Dreams VII. The two best we can find, which may well include our own home-bred First Paddy (name unofficial).
Happy to answer any sales questions and we always welcome guests at the sales.
Jerry
