Action!

July 30, 2014

Dear Partners and Friends,

Another great weekend of racing.

Most importantly, Irish You Well has stamped himself as one of the top half dozen classic distance three year olds in the country. Sunday's top three finishers in the Haskell all benefited from a severely speed favoring track.

To make matters worse, the front enders didn't set any kind of fractions to run at. Irish closed more ground than any other horse all day at Monmouth. With a good trip he was at least second.

Jose Lezcano was the first to admit his mistake in dropping out the back end against slow fractions. The result was running nine wide to make up ground down the lane.

Still and all, Irish earned another $50,000 and punched his ticket for the Grade I Travers going a mile and a quarter a month from now at Saratoga. Saratoga is usually NOT a speed favoring surface. Should be a great race. You won't see the likes of Bayern or Wildcat Red wiring the field there as they are not bred to run classic distances.

Squall King did us proud with his win Sunday despite also having to endure a messed up trip.

And finally, La Machinna had an unfortunate start to his racing career as he was regularly mugged from all directions. To top it off he was left with no place to run in the stretch. We will stretch him out next time and see if he doesn't show a little more of what we expected from him.

Amazing schedule ahead:

Friday, August 1: Danny Boy makes his debut at Ellis Park in Race 5 at 2:42p.m. going one mile on the grass. He breaks from the #10 hole. I will be very disappointed if he doesn't do well.

Thursday, August 7: Brother O'Connell was penciled in for his first start with Christophe Clement at Saratoga going a mile and a sixteenth on the turf in a MSW race.  He may or may not get one more breeze, in which case this race would be two weeks later.

Saturday, August 16: Finnegan's Wake in a Grade II, $200,000 outing at Woodbine

Sunday, August 17: O'Prado Ole in a $500,000 Grade I Sword Dancer Stakes at a mile and a half on the grass at Saratoga.

Saturday, August 23: Irish You Well in the Grade I, $1,250,000 Travers.

Coming soon: Puca, under the care of Bill Mott, will likely run in August at Saratoga.

I hope you are all proud of what you have accomplished. No partnership in America is performing at these levels!
