Day Three

September 15, 2016

Dear Partners and Friends,

Day Three at Keeneland was another tough one that saw us coming away with two of the four horses we were interested in.

Mike Repole was not to be outbid for Hip 528 by Curlin and Hip 594 by Kitten's Joy went to Shadwell (speaking of deep pockets). More on the Kitten's Joy below.

This is one of the frustrating parts of our job. We loved this Curlin colt but we won't pay $500,000 for a horse worth $350,000.

Okay, now the good news:

Hip #540, a colt by Street Cry, came to Donegal for $200,000. This colt is one of those who just kept checking every box as we moved through all our tests. He has solid algorithm scores, a bullseye cardio and was a choice of Todd's. Can't wait to see how he turns out as he was surely an under the radar type.

Hip #545, a colt by Bernardini, was not under the radar at all. This colt screamed class the second he walked out of his stall and we thought the only issue with him was that he would be too expensive. I can't wait for all of you to meet this guy.

Out of proven mare, One Stormy Mama, and with Wicked Mama and Wicked Diva in his pedigree the naming contest should be in overdrive on this boy.

Prepared to spend $450,000 for him, we were thrilled when he was hammered down at $220,000.

After visits earlier this week by Larry Connolly and Keith Mason, partners Neal Ashe and Steve Sukup joined us yesterday. Two guys who know a little bit about business. We love having partners come and visit.

Today is a dark day at Keeneland, meaning no horses will sell. We will be there bright and early getting ready for days four and five.

And one final note about the Kittten's Joy out of the Kingmambo mare yesterday. Early in the day we met with former number one European jockey Joseph O'Brien, son of leading trainer Aidan O'Brien. Joseph is now finishing up his first year as a trainer (has already won a Grade I) and we discussed having Joseph train a horse for Donegal in Ireland. The Kitten's Joy would have been that horse. So we will keep looking.

Jerry
