Finnegans Wake won by a nose -- literally -- in the final race of the the Kentucky Derbyundercard. Jockey Victor Espinoza, who also rides Derby favorite American Pharoah, brought his horse back from 13 lengths to win the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic. Even 200 yards out of the finish he sat at the back of the pack, breaking at just the right time to nose past Sky Captain at the finish.

Sky Captain was disqualified, allowing Jack Milton to place and Seek Again to show. Finnegans Wake paid $9.40 on a $2 bet for the win.

In another exciting race -- the seven-furlong, Grade 1 Humana Distaff Stakes -- Dame Dorothy edged ahead of her two chief competitors as she came down the final quarter-mile of the race to claim victory. Dame Dorothy paid $7.20 for winning the race for fillies and mares four years or older, with Judy the Beauty and pace-setter Moonlit Stroll placing and showing, respectively.

The Humana Distaff Stakes was the seventh event of the undercard Saturday at Churchill downs in Louisville. Earlier, Divisidero won the Grade 2 American Turf Stakes, and Competitive Edge took the Grade 3 Pat Day Mile Stakes.

In the eighth race, Tepin led the one-mile Churchill Distaff Turf Mile Stakes with only a late challenge from a soon-to-fade Maid on a Mission en route to picking up a victory in the Grade 2 race for fillies and mares four years or older. Tepin paid $20.20 for the win.

In the ninth race -- the Grade 2 Churchill Downs Stakes -- Private Zone got the victory, paying $7.40. Nate's Mineshaft and Pants on Fire placed and showed.

The Kentucky Derby is set to go to the gates at 6:24 p.m. ET and can be viewed on NBC.
