Names, Names, Names!

December 5, 2014

The most august and Right Honorable Naming Committee, wonderful souls all, is pleased to share the latest progress in the naming of the steeds in Derby Dream VII.

First, a quick segway to Frank Smith at Elloree Training Center, who says each and every horse is doing very well. Frank is especially pleased early on with the Paddy O'Prado, the Unbridled's Song, the Curlin and the Candy Ride. In Frank's words, "These boys all have long ball potential." He places this group at a level very similar to last year's group, which seems destined to be the best ever.

New Names to Announce:

Hip 445 (Candy Ride) has been named OATFIELD.

Hip 835 (Malibu Moon out of Perfect Cause by Giant's Causeway) shall be named DONEGAL MOON. (Submitted by Chuck Nelson)

Hip 984 (Paddy O'Prado out of Wishful Legacy by Lyphard's Wish) shall be named PADDY O'PRODIGY. (Submitted by Julie Gold)

Now some input is needed. Give us your opinion on the following:

Hip 568: (Harlan's Holiday out of De Aar by Gone West): The Committee is down to either LORD IVEAGH or IRISH HOLIDAY. Feel free to express your opinion. Lord Iveagh was an Irish Lord who set up a hospital camp in De Aar, South Africa that saved many lives.

Hip 767: (Hard Spun out of Last Song by Unbridled's Song): The Committee is strongly considering SHUT THE BOX; a popular Irish Pub Board Game that has a second, more pop-culture-like meaning ;). I think it also has a strong competitive sound.

Hip 876: (Curlin out of Royal Tigress by Storm Cat): The Committee is all but settled on THIRD DAY (if it is available)  This is the colt that was born on Easter Sunday and his Mother died in childbirth.

Hip 1132: (Unbridled's Song out of French Dip by Speighstown). The Committee requests more names.

Hip 2222: (Stormy Atlantic out of Bells Are Ringing by Sadler's Wells): BALLAGH ROCKS is a lighthouse in Dublin, looking out at the (often) Stormy Atlantic with Bells Ringing.  A likely choice by the committee, but feel free to express your opinion.

The Committee thanks you for your interest in their hard work and is excited to hear from you.

Jerry (Scrivner for the Committee)
