How long can you hold your breath?
Dear Partners and Friends,
When a horse is training as good as Keen Ice you just hold your breath wanting race day to get here with him in such good form. Can we hold it for two weeks?
Because other duties will keep me in Des Moines next weekend thus missing the final breeze over at Keeneland I headed to Louisville for Ice's breeze this weekend. In the home of Muhammad Ali I couldn't help but think "float like a butterfly sting like a bee" as I watched Ice float across a very deep track and come back as if he hadn't worked. It took the outrider at a full gallop a full half mile after the work ended to catch and pull up Ice. A thing of beauty.
I know I am supposed to be cautious and not get everyone's hopes too high but Damn!
Speaking of which, in addition to the usual parimutuel opportunities, Wynn Las Vegas has put up a proposition bet you might be interested in.
That's right, you can wager on who wins between Pharoah and Ice.
Ice's breeze, while the big news, wasn't the only news. Eirigh (who is the naming equivalent of Shut the Box's brother) won a tremendous victory in a very tough allowance race at Woodbine Saturday. Quoting Dr. Tony Infante, "a perfect ride," which always helps. New trainer Kevin Attard has done a fine job with this horse and I appreciate his attention to detail in our race strategy discussions.
