Finnegan Leaves 2014 in his Wake!

January 4, 2015

Dear Partners and Friends,

What a way to start the New Year.

When I got up New Year's Day and read that highly regarded Gary West (former President of the National Turf Writer's and contributor to ESPN and CNN) had picked PUCA to win the Kentucky Oaks I thought well it doesn't get any better than this!

Then I watched Finnegan's Wake do the improbable yesterday and beat a tremendously talented field of horses cutting back from his last race winning distance of a mile and a half to a mile and an eighth while going six wide. I can't say enough for what Peter Miller has done with this horse. And how Victor Espinoza rides Finn and everything else we put him on.

Finnegan ran a lifetime best Beyer yesterday of 100 and I'm sure his sheet number will be in Paddy O'Prado territory. The field he beat had accumulated a double digit number of graded stake victories and averaged over a half million in earnings each.

Peter wants to now consider the Turf Cup at Dubai as well as the possibility of a dirt race at Santa Anita. We will keep you posted but Peter obviously has the same "you can't win if you're not in" attitude with which we run Donegal.

Rock Shandy had a great breeze this a.m. working the six furlongs in 1:12:20.  The third fastest of thirty two. Victor Espinoza was up and said Shandy keeps getting better and better. Looking for about eight horses next Saturday in Shandy's first Derby points dirt stakes.
