Donegal Races at the Highest Levels!

August 15, 2014

What a HUGE weekend of racing.

LA MACCHINA. Our Kentucky blue blooded Malibu Moon colt with the South Side Italian name hopes to look more like "the machine" today in his second start. In his Maiden voyage he got banged and bottled four times and failed to menace. Today we find out if it was bad racing luck or a bad performance. We expect better and look for him to be more forwardly placed in the race.

FINNEGAN'S WAKE. The little engine that could comes out of his Graded Stakes Win in the Arlington Handicap and now steps up to the biggest turf race in the United States in tomorrows Million Dollar Grade I Arlington Million.  He will have to run a lifetime best race to finish on top as the field is short, but powerful. The world's top turf jockey, Ryan Moore, has the mount. Donegal partners paid $30,000 for this colt.

O'PRADO OLE. This handsome colt seems to be getting better by the hour. He will need to be as he goes in Sunday's Grade I, $500,000 Sword Dancer at Saratoga.  J. R. Valesquez has the mount. With a modest step forward in form, Ole could be right there. Donegal partners paid $35,000 for this colt.

The two Grade I's have major Breeders' Cup implications as Donegal looks deeper into the fall.

Finally, be sure and mark September 6 on your calendar for the FIRST DERBY PREP - The Graded Iroquois. Donegal owned this race last year and we will have at least Danny Boy going in it this year.

The Keeneland September Sale (and the birth of DDVII) begins September 8.
